In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Sarada is a character who wears glasses, even though she possesses access to the Sharigan due to being an Uchiha, daughter of Sasuke Uchiha. However, it is very strange for a character with supposedly perfect eyes to use a vision correction accessory, so let’s find out why.
Why does Sarada Uchiha wear glasses?
1. The Disease
During Sasuke’s absence in Sarada’s early years, the girl ended up contracting a disease that caused her to suffer from high fever which affected her ocular nerves. Despite the care that she received from her mother Sakura Haruno and Karin, Sarada’s eyes highly suffered from this event which forced her to wear glasses.
However, since the Sharingan is activated, her vision becomes “perfect” like that of any other user of this kekkei genkai, but when it is not, Sarada’s vision requires the use of these glasses to see normally.
2. A choice from the Author
Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the series, enjoys giving all his important characters some distinctives traits to make them unique like the Naruto and Boruto’s mustaches, Iruka’s sensei scar or Kakashi’s mask. However, for Sarada, he really wanted to add glasses in her design and that is why this character wears glasses even though her eyes have an ability that gives perfect vision.
Why does Sarada have Karin’s glasses?
As explained previously, Sarada had suffered from extremely high fever when she was young. Although the fever was controlled by Karin and Sakura’s medical expertise, it came at the cost of her eyes, which were damaged.
Therefore, as she now needed the aid of glasses to help her vision, Karin offered Sarada her glasses as a gift.
